Thank you for visiting my site. My name is Don Pump and my company is Don Pump Performance, LLC. I believe the best approach to performance coaching is through evidence-based research. I am coming up on the final stretch of my graduate work in the field of Kinesiology at the University of Texas. I can not tell you how much I thought I knew before I learned how much I didn’t. Evidence is a tricky subject in today’s over-digitized world. Nowadays everyone thinks they can do research by surfing the internet. Unfortunately it is not that simple.  DPP is governed by an Evidence-Based Training (EBT) Philosophy. A systemic approach to the training of athletes based on the current best evidence from peer-reviewed research and professional reasoning based on the needs analysis of the athlete their respective sport. EBT is a systemic process that requires a conscientious and judicious search of available research to find the current best evidence for a given topic. It is not blindly following the “experts” or based on casual reading or a few abstracts. There is often just as much time spent reviewing current research as in the training of athletes. I encourage you to check out some of the articles on the site. Please note that the research reviews are academic in nature and may be less entertaining. The editorials are articles I have written to voice my opinions on various topics. Even though they are my opinions they are based in research. That basically means that I have made those opinions after reviewing the current research on that specific topic. It is also important to note that opinions like science do sometimes change and or evolve. It is not unreasonable to change your opinion after a period of time where you may have gained more knowledge on a topic, this is called learning. Professional coaches have a responsibility to those that they train to stay current on research and evolve with the times. I will also warn you that sometimes my opinions are a bit direct, to the point, and sometimes too “east coast” as those out here in Hawaii say. I am after all a Jersey boy who grew up in an Italian family with drill instructor as parents, spent 10 years in the military, a few tours to Iraq and a lifetime of athletics.

As for my training methodology, I believe every athlete on the team is evaluated and trained according to their capabilities at that moment. Before I ever think about adding additional unnecessary elements to your training we first eliminate any negative ones that may be inhibiting your performance. Only then can we make appropriate adjustments to your program resulting in performance enhancement. Here I list my current affiliations and professional credentials.
